Frequently Asked Questions
Is it mandatory to attend Connect Night?
Although Connect Night is not mandatory, it is the most important first step in planning your child’s high school career. Through attending Connect Night you will learn all of the steps and important considerations in the scheduling process. As a result of Connect Night, the student and the parent will be able to better plan a schedule that meets the student's educational goals.
Will we be choosing our child’s classes at Connect Night?
Counselors and students will complete schedule requests online at the middle schools in the days following Connect Night. Students will bring the scheduling materials from home after families have had an opportunity to plan a freshman schedule. Students and counselors will then enter the requests.
What is a pathway?
Pathways are simply suggestions for how to plan your Connect Night journey. Since we have multiple breakout sessions, participants will need to prioritize what presentations mean the most to them. Pathways have already organized your evening so you know what breakout session to attend when so you can make the most of your evening.
Do I have to follow a specific pathway?
No, you do not have to follow a specific pathway. Pathways are just a guide or example of how to plan your evening. Participants can choose to attend whatever breakout sessions they wish and as many or as few breakout sessions as time will allow.
What if I want to follow both the AP Core Path and the Student-Athlete Path?
Breakout sessions have been organized so that participants can follow multiple paths or pick and choose a path of their own. If you wanted to attend both the AP Core presentation and the Student-Athlete presentation, it is possible to attend both since the breakout is offered at different times. You will need to pay attention to sessions that are held multiple times and those that are offered only one time during the evening.
Do I have to attend every session?
The great thing about Connect Night is that you get to pick the presentations that mean the most to your and your child. The way to make the most of the evening is to plan on attending as many breakout sessions after the keynote. However, once you’ve gathered all the information you need to plan your child’s high school career, you are welcome to end your evening.
What if I want to attend more than three breakout sessions?
Although we offer five breakout sessions, we believe not all presentations may apply to every student. Participants should be able to gather enough information to plan a high school career by attending just three sessions along with the keynote. However, if participants seek additional information, guidance counselors and administrators will be available informally between 8:30 and 8:45 for additional questions.
What if I arrive late to Connect Night?
Registration is from 5:30 - 6:00, and our Keynote presentation will begin promptly at 6:00. If you arrive late, you can simply join the keynote presentation in progress. Breakout sessions begin at 6:50 and rotate every 30 minutes. If you cannot arrive until later in the evening, plan to attend the breakout sessions that are offered when you do arrive. If you have questions and missed the keynote entirely, parents and students can meeting individually with guidance counselors in the Schedule Workshop breakout sessions to learn the pertinent scheduling information covered in the Keynote.
